Kehlani, an American singer, songwriter, and dancer, unreleased third studio album, “Blue Water Road,” reportedly leaked online.
Kehlani has revealed the title of their third studio album Blue Water Road with the release of a spectacular new teaser film. Although no official date has been set, the follow-up to 2020’s It Was Good Until It Wasn’t will be published this winter.
It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, the follow-up to 2020’s It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, will be released on April 29. (via Atlantic). In a press release, Kehlani said, “Blue Water Road is a place in my thoughts.” Pop Wansel of Pop & Oak, a producing pair, is the album’s executive producer. Below is the album cover (created by Brianna Alysse). The first song from the next album, “Altar,” was released in September. “Little Story,” the follow-up, was released last month. Pop Wansel is the man behind both tunes.
Kehlani has finally announced the contents of her new album after a continuous drip of singles over the previous six months. The record, titled Blue Water Road, will be published on Atlantic Records on April 29. So far, the artist has revealed two songs from the album: “Altar” and “Little Story.”
In a statement, Kehlani stated, “blue water road is a destination in my thoughts.” “I’m letting everyone in.” It’s an emotional, sexual, and spiritual adventure all rolled into one. The record reminds me of a glass mansion. It’s translucent and light, and the sun shines straight through it.” It Was Good Until It Wasn’t, Kehlani’s previous album, was released in May 2020. Later that year, we did a cover story on her, which you can read here. Our best of 2020 lists included the album and its songs. Overall, this will be their third album.
The singer — who uses the pronouns she/they — rises from the wreckage with a fractured leg in the trailer. It’s an allusion to Kehlani’s latest album cover, where they’re pictured hovering over a brick wall with a hose in hand, as a fan accurately pointed out. The celebrity tweeted, “Coming out of the ashes of It Was Good Until It Wasn’t and into the light, on to the road.”
In an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this year, Kehlani discussed her ideas for Blue Water Road. Last September, they composed it at a Malibu AirBnB with a group of close friends and colleagues. They had initially gathered for what they assumed would be only additional tracks for the It Was Good deluxe version.
“We just made so much cool shit,” they explained to RS, “and it was so different from what I would consider to be able to be on the deluxe because it sounded nothing like it.” “I was simply like, ‘Fuck it, this is a whole other project.'”
Kehlani completed the album with Andrew “Pop” Wansel at a different rental property and characterized the new tracks as “lighter” in tone than the previous endeavor.
They stated, alluding to the epidemic, “Everything happening on right now is heavy.” “Not only am I not in a bad place right now, but I’m also beginning to move out of the ‘When are we going to go back to normal?’ perspective.” ‘This is our new normal,’ to put it another way. That’s a pretty fortunate thing to say, since I’ve never had a close loved one die or get the virus. I believe that people need some kind of warmth, and I am in the mindset of emphasizing positive.”
The album’s first song, “altar,” was released in September by the Oakland native. They stated the lead song was “dedicated to all those I’ve lost” in since-deleted tweets. Gaining angels abound throughout the years 2020-2021. plenty of knowledge about death full of elevation and glory, full of maturing through loss.”
Kehlani spoke about privilege when she came out as a lesbian earlier this year. In an Instagram Live video with photographer Jamie-Lee B, the singer questioned, “Wanna know what’s new about me?” “I’ve finally realized I’m a lesbian.”
“I believe a lot of the artists we speak about and say, ‘Oh, they had to come out or do this,’ they can’t conceal it,” she remarked. “A lot of it has to do with how they portray themselves. It’s more difficult for them. It’s more difficult for trans artists. It’s more difficult for Black homosexual males. For Black macho homosexual women, it’s more difficult.” The 26-year-old released “small tale,” the album’s second single, towards the end of February. The sweetly sensitive, string-laden song, which is accompanied by a visually captivating black-and-white visual, is a pledge about becoming a better partner, and not simply in a romantic sense.
